A readiness assessment is crucial because it serves three important goals. First, it identifies "gaps," areas where you are not ready to proceed with your analytic or BI efforts. By identifying your readiness gaps, you can avoid wasting time and resources in areas where lack of preparation would make success difficult and failure probable.  Second, readiness assessment shows what you need to close the gaps and implement BI with a high probability of success. Finally, it helps you understand why effort is worth doing or ignoring.
