In my previous blog post, I shared the story of two of our customers and how their selfless contributions to Eric Walker, a young man from Greensboro living with sever cerebral palsy. I wanted to take this opportunity to report back on Eric’s experience at the Carolina Panthers play-off game from January 11th. I also learned that there were additional good Samaritans involved that made Eric’s day at Bank of America Stadium a memorable experience for Eric, his mother Melanie and anyone familiar with Eric’s dream to see his beloved Panthers play.
I mentioned previously that Mike Shemancik, CIO of ABT Power Management was able to connect with Frank Harrison, Chairman and CEO of Coca Cola Bottling Company Consolidated. When Frank learned of Melanie’s request for her son Eric, he included them in the Coca Cola Bottling Suite for the game. I later learned that Eric had also been invited to visit the field prior to the start of the game.
As it turns out, Steve Lineberger, President of ABT Power Management, was formerly the President of Krispy Kreme’s US Franchise operations and well connected to Krispy Kreme CEO, Jim Morgan. Steve knew that Jim had connections to the Panthers organization which include Jerry Richardson. Thanks to Jim and his Panthers connections, the Panthers organization extended an invitation to Melanie and Eric to participate in the pre-game festivities on the field!
Pictures being worth a thousand words, I’ll invite you to watch the slide show below. It’s my hope that the men and women who made Eric’s dream of seeing the Carolina Panthers in the NFL playoffs a reality all get to see this slideshow. The expression of sheer joy on Eric’s face is a testament to the good in the world. Thank you again, Mike Shemancik, Steve Lineberger, Frank Harrison and Jim Morgan.
